Some girls have all the luck! While I’m not particularly fond of this Gucci dress that Rihanna wore recently to a party in Milan, Italy, I am a little jealous of her current alignment with the fashion house. Rihanna is the face of Gucci’s upcoming collection for a charity campaign with UNICEF. The purpose of the collaboration is to sell limited edition products to raise money for charity. Apparently one of those limited edition items will be a gown that Rihanna co-designed.
As a part of Rihanna’s partnership with Gucci, she’s been spotted recently wearing lots of Gucci and attending events, like Gucci’s show during Italian fashion week, clad head to toe in the fantabulous Gucci F/W 08 stuff that I’ve been openly obsessing about for quite awhile now (sigh).
She even has the fringed boots…
She looks very “Disturbia” with the haircolor in the frontal fringe. I like it.
Unfortunately, the ones I like most are super expensive. Topshop seems to be the best place for the cheaper versions. Kate Moss has done a cool gillet, among other things, for them. (Click the pic to see where these can be purchased.)
The Elizabeth and James feathered version has been popular with the ladies:
Paging through one of my favorite sites, Facehunter, I saw this photo and was so inspired by the playful way this cute girl mixed items to come up with a great look.
The skirt initially reminded me a little of one of my other frequent inspirations, Jane from Sea of Shoes.
Normally I would find a skirt like this to be kind of intimidating. I would be sure that I would look at least 100 years old if I tried to style it. In fact, I don’t think I’d ever be drawn to a skirt like these if I saw it in a store. But, it’s good to step out of our nice comfortable little boxes now and then. So, in that spirit, I’ve concocted a way to wear a a similar skirt with a much more casual T. I decided to dress my look up a little by adding some luxe accessories.
Now I’ve just got to find a skirt with a similar shape at my local Goodwill. I don’t thin that will be difficult.
Time for another round of “Inspired By A Song”!! The song is “Swagger Like Us” by T.I. featuring M.I.A., Jay-Z, Kanye West and LIl Wayne. I like that M.I.A. is involved in all these interesting side projects. She’s getting exposure to audiences that probably never would’ve heard her music otherwise. The track is sic, so I can’t get it out of my head.
M.I.A. definitely has a style of her own.
Some of the stuff she wears would be - how should I say this - a little much for me in my everyday life. But, I think she’s cool and the music does inspire me to jump out of my comfort zone a little bit. Here is the look I chose:
skinny jeans or shiny leggings, a t-shirt (Delia’s) with an over-size grandpa cardigan (Alloy), some crazy high-top Nike Dunks (sneakerhead.com), and some funky accessories. The sunglasses are from Fredflare.com and the thick chain necklace, which is a play on the old school hip-hop chains, is from Patricia Field’s line (patriciafield.com - you know, the one who did the Sex and the City wardrobe). Oh, the hat is Topshop and the cuff is Claire’s.
This could be interesting. Who better than famed burlesque performer, Dita Von Teese, to launch a line of lingerie? Clearly the woman knows a thing or two about under wear. I’d like to see this line for Wonderbra in stores because I’m always on the lookout for cute, comfortable and functional under garments. I think this could be a very good thing.
SJP and Keira are making me want some leather, elbow-length gloves. Every Fall I swear I’m going to find a great vintage pair of these and I never have. They really are more versatile than they appear at first glance. You can wear them with a short sleeved, or three-quarter length sleeve jacket and they keep yours arms nice and toasty. Also, when it’s extra cold in the dead of winter, having that extra layer, even under your warmest coat, can be wonderful when you live in a cold place like I do.
I did an Ebay search for these and turned up a surprising number of choices. There is a wide variety of styles and colors.
I am loving over-the-knee boots right now. If you think they’re not for you, I beg you to take a look at some inspirational photos:
Georg! Kate Moss
Tommy Hilfiger show. Lovely brown.
the oft-exclaimed-over Gucci show. Amazing with tassels.
I recently purchased these: (take a look before I tell you who they’re from)
Ok, they’re from Pleaser BUT I swear they look so cool and they’re rather understated for Pleaser. They are flattering and comfortable and look so A-mazing with skinny jeans, tights and leggings. I found these at endless.com, but they were sold out of my size, so I bought them through Amazon. They were extra cheap too!
Last year’s faves, the Chinese Laundry version, are available in lots of colors this Fall.
Pricier, but beautiful - Pour La Victoire, available on endless.com
Can I just say that I prefer endless.com to zappos any day? I think they are much easier to search and if you’re looking for a shoe that’s uber popular, they’re less likely to be sold out at endless.
Cardigans are everywhere! And why not? They really are the perfect, snuggly addition to a great Fall wardrobe. And there are so many different iterations: plain ones, printed ones, frilly ones, structured ones, soft ones, grandpa ones, double breasted ones… you get the picture.
I came accross these pics of Clemence Poesy from an old Nylon magazine. I think it was last spring? Anyway, her look inspired me at the time, and I saved the images hoping to create a Clemence-inspired outfit. I forgot about it over time, but I’m still inspired when I see it today.
I thought it would be fun to do this in two different ways, one more casual and one more night-time like Clemence’s actual look. Here’s how I would do it:
tights and socks from F21, jackets from Topshop (don’t forget there is a US site now), boots - Doc Martens, heels - The Highest Heel at Zappos.
