julie | fashion report | Tuesday, 11 November 2008

What, what!?  Target is partnering with Alexander McQueen and his McQ line Target Designer Collaborations, which is a “unique program that features well-established designers who draw inspiration from a collaborative partner, muse or creative element”.  The McQ Alexander McQueen for Target collection launches on March 1, 2009.  And I DIE!!!

Nicholas Kirkwood, Shoe Design’s Newest Rock Star

julie | fashion report | Monday, 27 October 2008

There’s been a lot of buzz about Nicholas Kirkwood lately.  Some are even calling him the next Louboutin or Manolo.  Kirkwood is a shoe designer from the UK and his works have graced the runways of many fashion houses in the last few seasons.  He’s gaining popularity rapidly, and for good reason.

Kirkwood’s designs are very polished and architectural.  In an interview he did with Elle magazine he said, “I’ve always been interested in structure, in very linear shapes.”  “Whether it’s furniture or accessories or whatever, I love things that have a practicality to them.”

His Autumn/Winter 08 line has a very modern, architectural aesthetic.  The innovative platform gives the line cohesion and makes it uniquely recognizable.

Fringed Ankle Boots Are All The Rage

julie | fashion report, where to get the trend | Friday, 17 October 2008

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know that Who What Wear Daily has these Bakers boots on their site today.  Whatever, I’m still going to write about them, but I’m gonna write about some other boots that are the ish too.

The blogosphere has been unabashedly obsessing over Balmain for some time now.  The fringed booties from the Fall 2008 ready to wear collection have been lusted over by countless women.

So it should come as no surprise that there are some decent knock offs to be had.  These boots from Bakers are a pretty blatant copy of the original, so they’re fab, obvs.

They’re $130.  Get them here.

Fringe is really having a moment.  Remember the Gucci Fall 2008 RTW collection?  If you’re a regular reader, you know I’ve done, ahem, a few posts on it.

These studded, fringed boots are amazing so they too have been ripped off and produced in mass quantities.

These “Rami” boots are from Guess and they are available here for $225.

But the fun doesn’t end there.  Here are some other lovelies:

Sick!  I like these better than the Guess ones and you could DIY some studs if you really wanted to.  These are only 89 bones, people!  Get them here.

How about these for switching it up a little?

$90, get them here.

But, these are the fringed boots I bought last weekend and haven’t stopped thinking about since.  I mean, there are endless outfit possibilities with these things.

They’re by Chinese Laundry and I got mine for $119, I think, at Nordstrom.  For some reason, they aren’t on the Nordstrom website, but you can buy them here.

Ok, that was lots of fringey fun.  This was a labor intensive post and I’m tired now.  Have a great weekend!

Charlotte Ronson for JC Penney

julie | celebrity fashion, fashion report | Wednesday, 08 October 2008

WWD reports today that JC Penney will carry a new comtemporary sportswear line, designed by Charlotte Ronson, in 600 of its stores begining next Spring.  The collection is part of a long-term deal between Ronson and the retailer, and will be called I [Heart] Ronson.

As many of you probably remember, Ronson partnered with Urban Outfitters last Summer on a limited collection.  That collection didn’t seem to do so well in stores.  Hopefully the experience will enable her to do great things with this new partnership.  I’m excited to see what she comes up with.

Dr. Martens Does High Heels

julie | fashion report | Tuesday, 07 October 2008

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is a first for Dr. Martens.  I have to say that these boots remind me somewhat of the famed Ann Demuelemeester lace ups that are so terribly covetable this season.

If you like the Ann Ds, but don’t want to plunk down the $1100+ to buy them, the Dr. Martens start to look very attractive at about $150.

Carine Roitfeld and Posh Have Something in Common

julie | celebrity fashion, fashion report | Friday, 03 October 2008

If this doesn’t brighten your Friday, I don’t know what will.  I heart you Fashion.

Back up latex leggings.  Now we need them to be attached to our boots.

Inspired by Balmain Spring 2009 Ready to Wear

julie | fashion report | Thursday, 02 October 2008

Balmain’s Spring 2009 RTW show in Paris was a huge hit.  You’ve probably noticed numerous bloggers’ reviews and raves.  I won’t bore you by posting all of the photos that you’ve probably already seen.  This collection is so great though that I don’t want to wait until Spring to implement some of the flavor into my own wardrobe.  I thought I might pick a few of the looks that would work well for the current Autumn weather, and see if I could come up with a way to mimic them at a reasonable price point.  Here are the looks I chose:

The studs, the bleaching, the embellished jackets!!!  It’s all just so A-MAZING!  Luckily, denim styles this Fall are right in line with these Balmain looks so you won’t have trouble finding similar styles.  The studded sandals are to die for, but my geography requires me to have a few warmer options as well.  I think a tough-looking ankle boot would be a good stand in.  These jackets are truly unique and hard to replicate.  Until they’re available (or some good knockoffs) I’d substitute a tailored military jacet and add some layered chains.

Rihanna for Gucci

julie | celebrity fashion, fashion report | Tuesday, 30 September 2008

Some girls have all the luck!  While I’m not particularly fond of this Gucci dress that Rihanna wore recently to a party in Milan, Italy, I am a little jealous of her current alignment with the fashion house.  Rihanna is the face of Gucci’s upcoming collection for a charity campaign with UNICEF.  The purpose of the collaboration is to sell limited edition products to raise money for charity.  Apparently one of those limited edition items will be a gown that Rihanna co-designed.

As a part of Rihanna’s partnership with Gucci, she’s been spotted recently wearing lots of Gucci and attending events, like Gucci’s show during Italian fashion week, clad head to toe in the fantabulous Gucci F/W 08 stuff that I’ve been openly obsessing about for quite awhile now (sigh).

She even has the fringed boots…

She looks very “Disturbia” with the haircolor in the frontal fringe.  I like it.

LAMB for W Hotel Bar Employees

julie | fashion report | Monday, 15 September 2008

People Magazine reports that Gwen Stefani is launching an exclusive line of uniforms to be worn by bar staff of the W Hotels.  Gwen says that she wanted to design a super cute dress that she would be excited to have in her own closet.  Kind of makes you want to work there, doesn’t it?
