I went to see the movie Changeling last weekend. It was a great movie (although sad) set in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The always beautiful Angelina Jolie looked especially elegant in the dress length fur-collared coats, ladylike gloves, jeweled broaches and smart hats of the time. She wore her hair in waves and never left the house without a dark red lip.

I was inspired to add some of that twenties elegance and charm to my own winter looks. I found everything I needed for a great price.

All items available at Forever21.

Hello Lovelies! I hope your Halloween is filled with lots of ghoulish delights!

I saw the new Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly movie, Step Brothers, last night. If you are a fan of the Will Ferrell type humor, you will probably like this movie. My friend and I laughed pretty much the entire way through.
As I was watching the movie, I noticed that in several different scenes, both John and Will are wearing these great old t-shirts.

Will’s is the Judds and John’s says ‘84 Spring Break.

Classic Mountain Dew logo and Converse “Chuck Taylors” hanging around the neck.
Seeing these Ts got me thinking that I’m kind of tired of wearing the same old white and gray v-neck t-shirts from American Apparel. Since it’s still too hot to start really getting into the new Fall clothing, but you’re sick of your boring old summer wardrobe, and you don’t want to invest a bunch of money in buying new hot weather clothes, why not trade out some of your plain Ts with some new, more colorful ones?
Here are some of my faves. I also included some items at the bottom just to get you thinking about your abundant styling options.

The top row of shirts are from Delias.com and the second row are from Urban Outfitters.

Ok, one other post about Anne Hathaway’s wardrobe in the Get Smart movie :) I am mildly obsessed with jackets. This creamy leather jacket with the amazing zipper detailing is kind of driving me nuts. I want it! Seeing it reminded me of the Rick Owens jacket that I’ve been trying to forget about for quite some time.

It is divine isn’t it? The zips and the ruffly bottom…. If only I had the thousands of dollars that is costs.
And then there’s this from 3.1 Phillip Lim

A girl can dream right? I’m going to keep my eye out for a less exorbitant version. Anyone have any ideas? I’d love to hear them.
I saw Get Smart last night and I chuckled the whole way through. Anne Hathaway was stunning as Agent 99. She had a pretty smart wardrobe too. I was inspired by her crisp white trench coat paired with white Chanel sunglasses and a white, quilted Chanel chain strap bag. She finished her look with white slim pants and killer black stilettos. I thought I’d look for similar items in a couple of different price points so we can all get some secret agent style.

Right next to the movie poster you’ll see the Chanel sunglasses and Chanel bag along with a trench from 3.1 Phillip Lim. Obviously, this is the more expensive version of the look. The trench is available at brownsfashion.com. The next grouping shows two cute trench-style coats, some very chic white sunnies and a black, quilted, chain strap bag all from Forever 21. Unfortunately, this bag doesn’t come in white, but I did find a nice vanilla leather bag with great utility pockets from MICHAEL by Michael Kors available at Nordstrom.
The white denim pants I used are from Wet Seal and the peep toes are Louboutins.

Want to be inspired by the looks from the Sex and the City movie in the comfort of your own home? Um… Yeah! Then get thee to Amazon and buy the SATC: The Movie book. The book contains a plot recap as well as behind-the-scenes stories from the actresses, producers and cast members. But the reason I’d like to buy it is because of the guide to the movie’s “multi-million-dollar fashion closet” and insight from Patricia Field.

I finally saw Into the Wild. It was one of those movies that I kept thinking about long after it was over. I thought a lot about why Emile Hersch’s character felt compelled to take the journey that he took. I also thought about the fact that this was a true story. However, it wasn’t only the intriguing social and psychological aspects of the movie that had me thinking. I was also remembering a certain minor character played by Kristen Stewart. The character was a teenage girl who lived in a tailer in the dusty desert. She also happened to have an inspiring personal style that feels very relevant to this summer’s hippie vibe.

As you can see, she has the slightly messy, wind touseled hair that we all want. She also favors beat up old Levi’s cut-offs and tanks. Channeling Kristen’s vibe would be relatively easy and supremely comfortable and chic for summer:

Most of us have a couple of old faves when it comes to old denim shorts and tanks. The bag is from UO, but any vintage leather bag would be divine. The jewelry is that solid aged metal that makes you think it’s old even if it’s not. The sandals are by Jeffrey Campbell. The boots are Frye and the belt is Levi’s.

Like countless other faithful fans, I went to see the Sex and the City movie this weekend. I’m not going to talk about the plot here because I know that lots of you probably haven’t seen it yet. The fashion did not disappoint. I think I’ll buy the DVD when it comes out just so that I can get a better look at all the great wardrobe pieces.
Carrie wore the shoes pictured above a couple of different times in the movie. I thought they looked so great on her. They are the Extreme Pumps by Dior, and are therefore, out of my price range. I wondered whether there were any good facsimiles out there and I was not disappointed. I know that lots of people object to mass retailers who knock off the designs of others, but for those of you with a looser moral code, here are some good options:

Steve Madden - they changed at least a couple of details here.

Bakers - Um, these look exactly the same to me. Obviously, the quality will be nothing like the original, but if you want to get a bit of the Carrie Bradshaw look, this is a good place to start.
Since about 80 bajillion people have seen Iron Man, according to the box office numbers anyway, I think I can talk about one of the movie’s characters with the confidence that many of you will have seen the movie, and will therefore, know what I’m talking about. Virginia “Pepper” Potts is played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Her character is the assistant to Tony Stark, or Iron Man, as he is known in some circles. Ew, I know, you didn’t come here for the comedy. Pepper’s wardrobe in the movie reminded me of why I began my torrid love affair with the color black in the first place. Throughout the movie, she is smartly clad in black variations of a suit. Although most us aren’t blessed with the figure that Gwyneth has, the look is easy for anyone to pull off. So, the next time you’re deliberating about work wear, think of Pepper Potts.
Here is a still from the movie:

Very simple and very chic. The black pencil skirt (or a similar black knee-length skirt) is a wardrobe staple for the average working woman. It so versatile and quite flattering. The key for most women is to keep it at knee length and to be sure that it’s not too tight. You’ll know it’s too tight if you see ripples right across the hip and thigh area. The jacket here has an interesting cut and she has added a little color by putting a turquoise-ish top underneath. The standout here is the fantastic pair of shoes she’s wearing. I know that some offices don’t allow open shoes of this type, but there are lots of closed toe options that would work well.
Here are a couple of ideas:

The jacket, skirt and blouse are from Forever 21. This is a great way to get in on the sheer trend without losing your job for indeceny. You can wear a sheer blouse under a jacket. You might, of course, want to add a cami too. The sandals are from Forever 21 as well. This is an affordable facsimile of Pepper’s great ankle strap heels. The closed toe shoe is from Alloy. The bag is Chanel.
